Canoe Insurance
There’s nothing better than getting out on your canoe on a hot summer’s day, or really feeling the thrill of kayaking down some white water rapids. If you’re a fan then canoe insurance should definitely be on your list of must-haves, as having it there means that you can enjoy your canoe in complete confidence.
Canoe insurance is there to protect you financially should anything untoward happen, be it to yourself, your canoe or to someone else. Third liability cover is the very least you should be expecting, as it means you won’t personally have to pay out should you be in an accident where someone else gets injured or their property damaged.
But, damage could happen to your own canoe as well, and that’s why you need to go for something a bit more comprehensive. It’s a good idea to have it covered when in transit, and as long as you take extra precautions (i.e. by securely tying your canoe to the roof rack or trailer of the car) then most policies will be able to offer it.
It could equally be damaged on the water, so always look for a policy that can cover your boat no matter where you are. They can often be quite pricey purchases, so it pays to be covered. And, always double check that the paddles are included as well – you don’t want to read the small print later only to find that they weren’t covered!
Most policies will be able to cover you for all waterways in the UK, and a lot will be able to offer European cover as well for a set time period. For most people the general 30 days offered is more than adequate, but if you need longer then make sure to check with your insurer to see what can be done.
Racing could also be at the top of your agenda, and a lot of policies will be able to cover you while you’re racing and also when you’re at the club, provided your canoe is securely stored when not in use. If you’ve got a qualification from the British Canoe Union then that’s even better, because some insurers even offer discounts for holders of such certificates so it can be a great way to reduce your premiums.
As you can see, canoe insurance really should be an essential consideration to protect you as well as other people, and having it in place can cover you financially should anything go wrong. As long as you remember the above points to ensure you’re completely covered you don’t have to worry, so get searching for that perfect policy and get ready for a summer of canoeing fun.
