Sailboard Insurance
Sailboarding (otherwise known as windsurfing) is growing in popularity, with more and more people having sailboards in their possession. It’s a recognised sport with countless people enjoying it across the globe, and if you’re one of them you should have considered sailboard insurance at some point. If not, why?
Your sailboard is a possession just as much as anything else is, and as such it pays to have it protected. You wouldn’t take your expensive laptop out without having it insured properly, so why would you with your sports equipment? Sailboards can often be very pricey pieces of kit so it’s always worth having insurance in place, as if it were to become damaged in some way you’ll quickly feel the pinch.
You should aim to get sailboard insurance that’s as comprehensive as possible, as damage could occur to your property at any time. It needs to be covered both when it’s on the water and when it’s in transit, particularly if you’ve got a long way to travel, so always make sure that your insurance policy can accommodate.
It’s a good idea to have it covered against theft as well, and always go for year-round cover as you never know when you’re going to get the chance to hit those waves. Most policies will even offer European cover, but usually only for a set period (most for approximately 30 days) so if you’re planning on being abroad for longer make sure to find a more comprehensive policy.
There are a few caveats to insurance for sailboards however, with certain exclusions always being applicable. For example, although your sailboard will be covered when in transit it won’t be covered against any minor damage such as scratches or bruising, so you still need to take extra care of it. You’ll also find that any corrosion or general wear and tear will also be excluded, so always make sure to keep it properly looked after at all times.
As you can see, it really is advisable to have specific sailboard insurance if you’re about to hit the waves. Accidental damage could occur at any time so it pays to be protected, and with many policies starting from under £50 you shouldn’t have to fork out too much either. It certainly makes sense to be prepared, so make sure to look around to find the right cover for you and your property.
